MCC Guidelines for the Selection of a President
Miles Community College has a history and culture all its own. Understanding that distinctiveness, the strengths and challenges that the college experiences, and the conditions and environment in which it exists, is key to finding the individual uniquely qualified to be the next president. The board will hold forums for MCC employees, students and the community to help determine the qualities valued and expected of the new President.
For approximately six weeks, the President position will be open to candidates. This highly confidential process includes contacting individuals by telephone, letter and email to seek nominations of higher-education professionals, nonprofit executives, business professionals and government leaders whose experience, competence, style and character indicate they would be a good fit for Miles Community College.
About seven weeks into the search process, the search committee will begin to review the candidate pool and move the most highly qualified candidates forward in the search process. Using uniform, objective evaluation instruments, the committee will identify candidates who meet the criteria and qualifications of the position announcement.
The stages of review include:
While part of the search process is identifying the candidate the college needs and wants, an equally important part is making sure the top candidate wants to become a part of the history of Miles Community College. The Search Committee Chair facilitates the establishment and nurturance of a relationship between the institution and its leading candidates.

An important step in the presidential search process is the development of a Presidential Profile. Miles Community College held public "Listening Sessions" on Tuesday, August 13th and Wednesday August 14th. "Listening Sessions" were also held for the Faculty and Staff on August 26th. The student "Listening Session" is scheduled for September 16th.
These sessions allowed us to listen to your input and assist with the development of the Presidential Profile. The entire college community was encouraged to participate in these wide-ranging discussions about the qualities, characteristics, and qualifications we are seeking in the next President, as well as the opportunities and challenges facing Miles Community College in the years to come. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions about the presidential search process.
The Presidential Search Committee will have a significant role in finding MCC's new president.
The Presidential Search Committee will be responsible for reviewing the confidential applications, interviewing semifinalists, and identifying the final candidates to submit to the MCC Board of Trustees for approval.
The committee consists of representatives from across the College, including the Board, employee groups, students, and community members. The members of the Presidential Search Committee are:

Finalists from Kentucky, South Dakota and Colorado will be coming to Miles City beginning Thursday, November 7, with aspirations of becoming Miles Community Colleges ninth president.
"It was very impressive to see such a strong and diverse pool of applicants from around the country," remarked Debbie Morford, MCC Board of Trustees Chair and co-chair of the search committee. "It speaks volumes as to how MCC is viewed nationally across the community college landscape, especially given our recent success during President Klippenstein's tenure."
Over the past five-years, MCC has completed some major projects and initiatives, including construction of a new Ag Advancement Center, renovating the former armory into the Workforce Readiness Center, all while seeing consistent enrollment growth and student success. In fact, this fall MCC was one of only two higher education institutions throughout Montana to realize increased enrollment.
"Our next president will be inheriting an institution in good standing but we certainly aren't looking for someone who is going to rest on our laurels," stated Trustee Jeff Okerman and search co-chair. "It will be imperative for our next president to be a dynamic and innovative leader with the skills to not only ensure MCC succeeds, but also help Custer County and Eastern Montana flourish."
On Thursday, November 7, MCC will host Dr. Sandra Kiddoo. At present, Dr. Kiddoo serves as the Vice President of Academics at Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) in Hazard, Kentucky. HCTC educates nearly 3,200 students each year by headcount on multiple campus locations, offering more than 200 degrees, diplomas, and certificates. HCTC is a member of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Dr. Kiddoo is directly responsible for leading the academic programming, planning and development. The next finalist visiting Custer County on November 12 is Dr. Diane K. Duin. Dr. Duin currently serves as Vice President for Academics at Presentation College (PC), a private, faith-based institution, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Duin oversees the planning, development, and assessment of 27 academic programs. She leads three academic divisions, which encompasses 38 full-time faculty and approximately 24 adjunct faculty, serving just over 800 students by headcount annually. PC is a multi-campus institution with ten athletic programs participating in the NAIA division. Her application can be viewed at www.milescc.edu/PresidentSearch/Duin.pdf
On Thursday, November 14, Mr. Ron Slinger will be visiting Miles City. Mr. Slinger serves as Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Strategic Partnerships, and Workforce solutions at Red Rocks Community College (RRCC), in Arvada and Lakewood, Colorado. Slinger oversees government relations, community relations, alumni relations, the RRCC foundation, grants development and strategic partnerships. RRCC is part of the Colorado Community College System and delivers associates and certificate degrees to a student body with an average annual headcount near 10,000. To view his materials visit, www.milescc.edu/PresidentSearch/Slinger.pdf
The Miles City Community will have an opportunity to engage and evaluate all finalists during a series of community open forums. The finalists open forums are as follows:
"The Board of Trustees is proud of the search committee's commitment and diligence with identifying the best candidates to come on-campus and interview for this pivotal position," commented Morford. "As our region's college we kindly ask that the community take time to assist the Board of Trustees in hiring the ninth president by attending and providing valuable feedback during the community open forums."
The search for the president will remain open until filled. Applications continue to be reviewed by the search committee on a weekly basis.
