MILES CITY, MONTANA: Anne Anderson, an Education Instructor at Miles Community College (MCC), feels truly privileged to teach the next generation of teachers.
Originally from Lemmon, South Dakota, Anne’s first job was as a clerk at the local grocery store in high school. Her first gig in college involved blowing up balloons for a party decorating store; talk about starting off with a bang!
Anne has been a part of MCC since 2017, after spending several summers as a part-time instructor in the MCC Learning Center. In her current role, she gets to spend her days with passionate students who are eager to make a difference in their classrooms and communities.
“I think I’m the luckiest person on campus,” she says, reflecting on how grateful she feels to be a part of her students' journey to becoming educators.
When asked about her favorite part of working at MCC, Anne doesn’t hesitate: “The people I work with, in and out of the classroom.” Whether it’s faculty, staff, or students, Anne thrives in the close-knit environment that makes MCC so special. As for the courses she enjoys teaching most, Anne’s love for education shines through as she shares her enthusiasm for all the education (“EDU”) classes she teaches.
Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her sheep, an interesting hobby that reflects her down-to-earth personality. And if she weren’t teaching at MCC? Anne would go back to teaching elementary school, preferably a grade between kindergarten and third.
Her advice to her students is simple. "Do better,” she states. “We have to be better, the kids in your classrooms deserve better."
Anne's commitment to excellence is evident in both her teaching and her personal life, as her greatest career achievement comes from earning her EdD in May of 2025. She jokes after mentioning the work involved: “Who thought that was a good idea?!”
For the future, Anne dreams of hiking the Grand Canyon, combining her love of nature with adventure. Until then, she’ll continue to inspire and support her students, always striving to make the world a little bit better, one future teacher at a time.
