Pioneer Profiles: Meet Traci Glasscock

MILES CITY, MONTANA: Traci Glasscock is the current coordinator for the Dual Enrollment Program at MCC, a position that was established on campus at the end of last summer. If she looks familiar in her new office, it is likely because of her previous role in the MCC Learning Center where she worked as an instructor since 2023.

Traci grew up in Sun Prairie, which is roughly 50 miles south of Malta, Montana, and had her first job as a cowgirl, working at Wiederrick Brothers Ranch before turning her adult career towards teaching.

Traci’s greatest achievement was earning her master's degree in education with a focus in school counseling. She dedicated 19 years to teaching English in public schools, honing her skills and expertise with students. This extensive background positioned her well for her current role in higher education as she runs the dual enrollment program at MCC, connecting local and area high school students with opportunities to take college courses while still in high school.

“I love that I get to work with high school students and staff from all over Eastern Montana” she said. “I look forward to work every day because I enjoy all of the great people I get to work with, as well running into lots of people I have connected with over the past 30 years.”

Her day-to-day duties include handling applications and course registration for the dual enrollment students, as well as evaluating their transcripts to allow the students to be placed in the appropriate college classes. Traci also helps students get in contact with their college instructors and offers assistance and resources for help with coursework, payments and fees, and the transfer of credits to other colleges and universities.

Traci describes herself as cheerful, curious, up-beat, friendly, and competitive, and offers the following advice to others: “Failing is a key to learning. Don’t be afraid to try new and different things, even if that is challenging and you end up failing. You’ll learn more form the things that go wrong than the things that go well.”

She loves spending time outside of work watching her children compete in athletic endeavors, which have included football, volleyball, basketball, and track. “I enjoy growing flowers and doing yard work,” she stated. “And photography, although I have a hard time fitting that into my schedule!”

Traci’s passion for ranching has not waned, even as she focused on her career in education. If she weren’t employed at MCC, she would be working full-time at the family ranch. Currently on her days off, she assists with cattle work, transports employees, operates equipment, and prepares meals for the crew. However, if she were to leave the college, she would readily turn to these duties full time.

Or possibly take a vacation. “I’ve always wanted to travel to Australia and New Zealand!"
