Several groups of student athletes from Miles Community College assisted in the move of the local Custer County Food Bank last weekend.
Participants from the MCC Pioneer baseball team and both men’s and women’s basketball teams were on hand last Friday and Saturday to help move large appliances, shelving, and supplies from the current food bank location inside the VA Building to its new location on North 8th Street in Miles City.
"Community service is an important part of our program," commented MCC Women’s Basketball Coach Taylor Harris. "We’re excited to give back to the community that welcomes us with open arms!"
Last year, MCC participated in their "Year of Service", where all students, both academic and athletic, were encouraged to find ways to volunteer and track their time spent in civic engagement. Overall, the students volunteered a total of 1725 hours before the coronavirus pandemic prematurely ended their school year on campus. This year, all volunteer programs and events through the school will be ran under the MCC Cares program.
"These students do a great job finding ways to give back", says MCC Athletic Director Jerry Olson. "They love to support Miles City in any way they can."
