MILES COMMUNITY COLLEGE'S 79TH ANNUAL COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY


Miles Community College’s 79th annual Commencement Ceremony was held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 in the MCC Centra on the main campus in Miles City, MT.

Of the 2019 spring graduates, sixty walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. There were two Valedictorians and two Salutatorians. The Valedictorians were Jennifer Carman and Annabelle Durham. The Salutatorians were Rebecca Stein and Christine Weder. There were also twenty-two honor graduates, who held at least a 3.75 GPA.

Faculty and staff excellence awards were also given out during the ceremony. The Staff Excellence and Innovation award is awarded annually to one staff member who has actively been engaged in helping MCC achieve annual goals, been innovative in their approach to create an environment that supports student life and community outreach, and/or created and implemented new strategies aimed at enhancing student success.

The recipient of this year’s Staff Excellence and Innovation Award is Angela Mendoza. Angela works in the Business Office and has been at MCC for two years. Angela has gone above and beyond her work in the Business Office and has played a huge part in creating a course to assist MCC students with their financial literacy.

The Excellence in Teaching Award is awarded annually to a FT Faculty member who demonstrates excellence in their teaching methods, is innovative in their approach to student learning, and/or creates and implements new strategies aimed at enhancing student success and learning.

The recipient of this year’s Excellence in Teaching Award is Kim Gibbs. Kim is an Agriculture instructor and has helped MCC to be seen as a top-notch program in Montana. Kim is always helping her students find opportunities to get involved with Agriculture and has assisted many students in reaching their goals along the way. She is always looking at ways to improve the learning experience of each student.

This year’s commencement speaker was Dr. Richard E. Littlebear, Ph.D. Dr. Littlebear is the President of Chief Dull Knife College.

Miles Community College holds commencement ceremonies at the conclusion of the spring semester each year.
