Miles Community College Director of Athletics, Jerry Olson, has announced the hiring of Shawna Juarez as the head softball coach for MCC’s inaugural season. Coach Juarez has served as the head coach for Walla Walla Community College and previously for Edmonds Community College.
“Shawna brings a wealth of softball knowledge and experience to our softball program," Olson commented. "Coach Juarez has a lot of experience leading both a junior college program and club team. I believe her AAU coaching will help her in her recruiting efforts.”
Coach Juarez spent her collegiate coaching career in the Northwest Athletic Conference. Prior to her time at Edmonds Community College, the Tritons experienced a one hundred game losing streak. In 2014, during her first season, Juarez, her coaching staff, and her athletes were one game away from the NWAC championships. In addition to this, four Edmonds Community College players earned NWAC North all-league honors. Outside of her collegiate coaching involvement, Juarez has been coaching in the club softball scene. Coach Juarez began her club softball experience in 2009. Since then, she has been involved with the Idaho Golden Gloves, Washington Explosion, and the Washington Ladyhawks. Coach Juarez has been a part of five nationally ranked gold softball teams, including her 18 Gold squad, which finished third in the nation for ASA gold softball. During her tenure with club softball, she has helped numerous athletes pursue their dreams of playing collegiate softball and continuing their education at a high level.
Coach Juarez grew up on the softball diamond. She was rooted from a successful club/high school program, which helped her to play collegiately. After high school graduation, Coach Juarez continued her playing career in both basketball and softball at Wenatchee Valley, where she was a key component to both teams’ success. Upon receiving her AA at WVC, Coach Juarez continued her playing career for Northwest Nazarene University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in social work.
Coach Juarez commented, “I am above and beyond thankful, exhilarated, and humbled to be named the first ever softball coach at Miles Community College. I would not have been granted this fantastic opportunity without the gracious support and belief in me from President Klippenstein, Jerry Olson, my remarkable family, and the entire Search Committee. I personally thank each of you for this opportunity and plan on serving each student athlete that I work for in a very positive manner, as well as representing Miles Community College and this wonderful community with integrity and great honor. I have a very vibrant passion for competition, leading people to do great things, excellence, and making monumental and lasting impacts upon those whom I serve. I look forward to joining the Pioneer team and supporting and working cohesively with this wonderful institution full of exceptional people.
