Miles Community College Athletic Department has announced the approval by the NJCAA to move from NJCAA Region IX to Region XIII, beginning Fall 2018. The announcement came at the NJCAA National Meetings in Colorado Springs, CO on April 3-7, 2018.
"Miles Community College appreciates the formal approval from the NJCAA to move from Region IX to Region XIII,” commented MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein. “We will once again participate in the MonDak Athletic Conference and compete with similar institutions. Our fans will appreciate our continued success and rekindled conference rivalries. This is a smart move for MCC and our student-athletes."
“MCC has been a member of Region IX for some time now, so it was a very tough decision to make the move to Region XIII, “Co-Athletic Director and head men’s basketball coach Chase Tait said. “The decision to move was in the best interest of our athletic department as a whole. The move lessens the travel for our baseball program and allows our baseball and volleyball programs to move to the Division II level in line with the other Region XIII schools. I believe it will have a positive impact on all of our athletic teams and student athletes at MCC.”
Head women’s basketball coach Nate Vogel is excited about the move, “I think this will be a great move for all our programs. It allows us to compete with schools that have a similar scholarship situation.”
“Moving to the MonDak conference will put us on a more even playing field, both athletically and financially,” commented head volleyball coach Chase Soennichsen. “This makes it a great move for the entire MCC athletic department.”
Pioneer baseball is also ready for the switch. “This is the best thing for the school and athletic department in every facet…academically, financially, competitively, scheduling, travel, etc. We’ve done a lot of time in both Regions and we’ve done our homework with this decision and we will see positive, immediate results because of it,” commented head baseball coach Jeff Brabant.
The MonDak conference is currently comprised of 7, now 8, member institutions (Bismarck State College, North Dakota State College of Science, United Tribes Technical College, Lake Region State College, Williston State College, Dakota College at Bottineau, and Dawson Community College) that share a common geographic region and similar academic values and purposes.
