Miles Community College is excited to announce another Library Speaker Series on Wednesday, April 11 at 6:30 pm. The event will take place in the Judson H. Flower Jr. Library on the MCC campus. The speaker will be Professor Molly Ann Magestro. Dr. Magestro teaches writing at Miles Community College. She is originally from Wisconsin and earned her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is the author of Assault on the Small Screen and writes fiction in her free time. She believes survivors.
The presentation title is “#MeToo, #TimesUp, and Sexual Violence in Hollywood and Popular Culture.” According to Dr. Magestro, the way we talk about sexual violence is changing. The conversations are louder and include more voices. Serial predators have shaped the stories we’re told from our news channels to our politics to our television and movie screens, but online movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp expanded the conversations surrounding sexual violence and gender and economic inequality by giving more control to victims and survivors. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and MCC’s Dr. Molly Ann Magestro will speak about the subject of her book—sexual violence on shows such as NCIS, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and The Good Wife—as well as the ongoing conversation about sexual violence happening in the United States.
The library speaker series brings cultural events to Miles City several times throughout the year, hosting diverse speakers presenting on a variety of subjects--often through a partnership with Humanities Montana. The Judson H. Flower Jr. Library speaker series at Miles Community College is always free and open to the public.
