Miles Community College (MCC) is proud to announce that Nate Vogel has been hired as the new head women’s basketball coach for the Lady Pioneers.
MCC Vice President of Student Success, Jessie Dufner, says, “We are extremely excited that Nate Vogel has committed to being our next head women’s basketball coach. Nate brings with him over 15 years of playing and coaching experience, a passion for the sport, as well as a coaching philosophy and dedication to civic engagement that will fit well with the vision and mission of Miles Community College and its athletic department. His strong work ethic and enthusiasm for developing a student-athlete for success both on and off the court are evident. We welcome Nate to Miles Community College!”
Vogel is a graduate of Black Hills State who was a standout basketball player in his own right. He was a three year starter and led the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets to a second place national ranking and an appearance at the Elite Eight in 1999.
Vogel has over 10 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level. He also has a strong background in strength and conditioning and was a prior business owner of a fitness facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Coach Vogel is passionate about civic engagement and has served as President of Rotary, has been on multiple boards of charitable organizations, and founded the St. Louis Chapter of Room to Read, where he lead fundraising efforts for this global organization dedicated to promoting and enabling education through programs focused on literacy and gender equality in education. He became the assistant men’s basketball coach at Maryville University in 2014. Where he was in charge of recruiting and talent evaluation, practice organization, preparation of game strategy, monitoring student-athlete conditioning and academic progress. At the same time Nate was the head men’s and women’s basketball strength and conditioning coach at Maryville, before moving up to become the top assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at Black Hills State University. Nate is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Kinesiology at Southern Illinois University.
When asked about becoming the new head coach for Miles Community College, Vogel says, “I am honored and so excited to be named the next head women’s basketball coach at Miles Community College. I want to thank President Klippenstein, Athletic Directors Jeff Brabant and Chase Tait and the rest of the Search Committee for the opportunity to join the MCC family. I can't wait to immerse myself in the community and have a positive impact, not only on the women's basketball program, but MCC as a whole, along with the entire Miles City community.I will attack this job with every ounce of energy I have. I'm so passionate about basketball and this opportunity at MCC. This school and community are getting a coach who is crazy excited about this job and will not take it for granted."
Miles Community College Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs compete in the NJCAA Region IX conference. Nate Vogel takes over the reins of the women’s basketball program after the departure of previous head Coach Liz Lewis, who has signed on to coach at Dickinson State.
