The Steers for Pioneers program is a college fundraiser for the MCC
Men's & Women's Rodeo teams, Ag program, and Equine program. Proceeds
from the Steers for Pioneers program will be used for the recruitment of
top area rodeo athletes, Ag and Equine students. These funds will also
be used for increased scholarships, procurement of practice stock, feed
and any other supplies connected with these three departments. The
program is a collaborative effort between Miles Community College, the
Rodeo Advisory Committee, Ag Committee and the Equine Committee to give
cattle producers additional options to support student education at MCC.
The program is managed by Eric Moore of Solaris Feeders.
Donor Recognition:
Producers donating cattle or equivalent dollars will receive an official
MCC Rodeo jacket. Producers will also be recognized during the MCC Rodeo
Stampede located at the Eastern Montana Fair Grounds in Miles City, and
the Annual MCC Rodeo Buckaroo Bash as well as listed in the rodeo
program.
Options for Donating:
- Cash donation.
- Yearling cow or any other type of livestock that does not
qualify for the feedlot contest.
- Steer calf weighing between 450 and 600 pounds for the feedlot
contest.
Feedlot Contest:
Steer calves should be delivered or picked up on or before the weigh in
date at Solaris Feeders main yard at Miles City. All calves will be
individually weighed and processed. Calves may be delivered sooner if
necessary.
Cattle will be fed to optimum slaughter/market conditions and shipped to
a packer that maximizes value received and can get us individual carcass
data. Individual weights will be taken at receiving, reimplanting, and
just prior to shipping. Steers will be ranked according to average daily
gain from receiving to shipping and highest carcass value per pound. The
producers of the winning steer or steers in both of these categories
will be awarded the recognized at the annual MCC Buckaroo Bash
fundraiser held each year in February.
Producers can give to a specific program or have their donations benefit
