| Retired and
Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) |
The RSVP of Custer and Rosebud counties is sponsored by
Miles Community College. RSVP has been making volunteering
significant and simple since 1982. RSVP promotes productive
lifestyles for its members, who are all over age 55, by
connecting their many talents to meet the critical needs of the
community.
Approximately 300 active members volunteer in over 54
“workstations” in the region including Miles Community College.
Here many enjoy taking tickets at sporting events, registering
others to vote, mentoring, judging student projects, and
participating in seasonal projects. Miles Community College and
RSVP empower volunteers to get involved in public safety,
assisting at-risk youth, helping seniors remain independent, and
helping children improve their reading skills.
In addition to engaging people in their community, RSVP offers
many social activities where members, share experiences, meet
new people, and relish good entertainment. Events like the
annual Recognition Dinner, a Barn Dance and a New Years Party
are just a few fun things RSVP organizes. In addition, the
quarterly newsletter, RSVP NEWS, serves to educate, inform, and
entertain the readers.
RSVP has initiated a plan of action to engage the Baby Boomer
generation in their communities. In partnership with the Miles
City Area Economic Development Council, the Southeastern
Retirement Project addresses the issue of how the retirement of
Baby Boomers might impact community involvement and economic
growth in the 5 areas of healthcare, housing, personal finances,
education, and leisure within Southeastern Montana. The two-year
plan includes conducting research, implementing a marketing and
recruitment plan, and retaining and evaluating the project.
