Lynnes to Receive MCC’s Blue & Silver Award
Melinda Lynnes

Miles Community College is pleased to announce that Melinda Lynnes is the recipient of the Blue & Silver Award for Fall 2009. The Blue & Silver honor is awarded to an MCC employee of two years or more, who consistently goes above and beyond the duties of their job. Awardees are nominated by their peers. Melinda has been an instructor in the Center for Academic Support since 1987. Mrs. Lynnes earned her B.A. from Fresno State College, CA and her B.S. from Western Montana College in Dillon. Melinda teaches Adult Basic Education, English as a second language, GED preparation, pre-college academic remediation, study skills, and administers college and career exploration assessments. Melinda is involved in the Welcome Wagon for New Students in the fall of the year, she is an Adopt a Pioneer sponsor, and she volunteers for College Goal Sunday, just to mention a few of her MCC activities. Melinda’s hobbies include reading and scrapbooking. She volunteers with the youth program at her church, is a Relay For Life team captain and helps deliver Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Lynnes is very passionate about her job and states “This is the best job a person could ever have because every day is different. You get to work with a variety of people and can see the difference education makes in people’s lives. ‘Start Here…Go Anywhere’ is very true in our department. You see people start out in the ESL or developmental classes and they continue and graduate from college, or you work with students that are the first generation graduates from high school and continue their education through college.”
