James P. Lucas was recognized for his many contributions to
Miles Community College on January 25, 2010 when the MCC Board
of Trustees voted to approve the naming of the Administration
Building the James P. Lucas Hall. The Administration Building is
the main building which houses the administrative offices, along
with faculty offices and classrooms. The Administration Building
encompasses the variety of ways Mr. Lucas has been involved with
the campus for more than fifty years. Without his passion for
community colleges, MCC would not be the success it is today.
James P. Lucas was the founder and original member of the
Miles Community College Endowment Board, which was created in
1964. He was a long standing member of the MCC Board of
Trustees. Mr. Lucas has been a notable promoter and member of
the Pioneer Booster Club. He was the chair of the committee that
created and funded the MCC Centra project. Mr. Lucas, most
recently, was the recipient of the 2008 Western Regional Trustee
Leadership award from the Association of Community College
Trustees. Along with his work as an advocate for Miles Community
College, he has always been active in the Miles City community,
as well as state and national organizations.
A ceremony will be held later this spring to show
appreciation for Mr. Lucas’ dedication and extraordinary service
to MCC students, faculty and staff and to commemorate the naming
of the James P. Lucas Hall.
